George Kotsonis (1940) is a renowned Cypriot artist celebrated for his exceptional work in mosaics and paintings. Based in Paphos, Cyprus, he has spent decades creating masterpieces that blend traditional Cypriot culture with a modern artistic vision. His works are characterized by their depth, timeless beauty, and intricate storytelling, making him one of the most prominent figures in the Cypriot art scene.
For four years ( 2016-2019) , I had the privilege of working in George Kotsonis’s studio in Paphos. This period was not just a formative experience in my artistic journey but also a deep immersion into the philosophy and techniques that define his unique style. Observing his creative process and his ability to breathe life into traditional forms through mosaics and paintings had a profound influence on my own approach to art.

Inspired by his mastery, I developed a collection of works that reinterpret his style through my personal vision. This series pays homage to the timeless aesthetic of George Kotsonis while introducing my own symbolic elements and narratives. For me, this project became more than just an exploration of his influence — it was a way to bridge the artistic legacy of Cyprus with modern interpretations that resonate with contemporary audiences.
Through this reinterpretation, I sought to highlight the dialogue between traditional and modern art, proving how the essence of one artist’s vision can transcend time and inspire new creations. My work with George Kotsonis continues to remind me that art is not just about the past or the present; it is about creating bridges between eras, ideas, and emotions. His influence remains a cornerstone of my creative philosophy, and I’m honored to continue the conversation he began through his remarkable body of work.
